Episode 10 -What makes a contentful birthday?

Here are the highlights of this episode:

Not everyone enjoys a typical birthday celebration. A typical birthday celebration usually consists of a party, birthday cake, many people coming for the party, sing birthday songs, give presents and finally say bye bye. It sounds fun and the society makes us perceive so with all the posts on Instagram and Facebook making us think of having birthday parties which are more glamorous than our last. However, me and Verene doesn't think so. Those are not what we think as contentful birthdays.

Verene cares most about the feeling of being loved on her birthday. Verene had a great recent birthday experience with Andrew, her family and fellow friends. All the food, cakes and presents isn't what makes that birthday enjoyable. She enjoyed it because she felt the love from everyone celebrating this birthday with her.

Andrew cares about spending time with people he cares on his birthday. After several years of purpose searching, Andrew sees birthday as a moment every year to reflect the journey he went through last year. He understands that rely on others isn't the best way to get what he likes thus he prefers taking back control for his birthday whenever possible. It's just a great day for him to enjoy new cakes and quality time with people he cares.

Everyone defines their birthday differently. It's normal because everyone grow with different experience. The most important thing is just to be grateful with the people who are actually celebrating with you even though it's not something you prefer. If you truly wants a birthday which you enjoy, perhaps try take back control.
