Begin with common topics when you're trying to get to know girls. It's ok to compliment their looks and appearance but don't express your feeling about them immediately. They may get weirded out and the conversation may get awkward. It's better to get a conversation going with common topics and ensure that there's a chance for another conversation in the future.
Keep a distance when meeting the girl until both of you are comfortable with each other. This is important especially when both of you started off as total stranger. It's important to convey the message that you don't have any unhealthy intention other than getting to know her. Take note on the way you call her and the questions you ask her. Some terms which are too personal can make her feel uncomfortable.
Take time before expressing your true feeling for her. Just like the points above, it's important to follow through each steps slowly and not giving her the intention that you want to get into a relationship with her immediately. It's better to convey the intention of getting know her as a friend as not everyone can accept the former intention.
Don't ask for her phone number during your first encounter as this may be considered too personal in some cultures. The furthest you should go is asking for their social media account at the end of the conversation. There's virtually no difference between social media and phone number nowadays as both achieve the same purpose of communication. Once you get to know her more via social media, she may just give you her contact number.
