Work-life balance has become one of the common and important requests in the workforce. It is even more important in certain parts of the world where people emphasize more on their own or employee’s wellbeing. However, it’s always easier to say than do as there are many factors affecting how a company could ensure to provide sufficient work-life balance to the employees but at the same time won’t compromise the work that they should be doing.

As all the different countries from around the world are not moving at the same pace, certain countries have been making some policy in emphasizing the importance of work-life balance such as providing some incentives that ask the employees to take care of themselves in some healthy ways. However, in certain countries such as Asian or developing countries, people emphasize more on how to make the business into a success and put lesser attention to this topic. It doesn’t mean that they don’t care at all, just that their priority is slightly different.

In addition, as the workforce include different generations, each generation has different preferences when it comes to work-life balance. It is an important factor for a company to consider as the right incentives would be able to motivate the employees and take care of their wellbeing. As Verene shared, during one of the university lectures, the lecturer shared that there are some companies that provide a list of activities or incentives for their employees to choose from where it means the employees could have the opportunity to custom made the ‘work-life balance’ that they like and prefer.

There’s no right or wrong in how a company should work on work-life balance despite studies suggesting that work-life balance could bring multiple benefits to the company. At the end of the day, it is still dependent on what’s the company’s perspectives and what do they value as a company. What do you think?
