Have you ever thought of how would you like to raise you children in the future? It is interesting to think about it in our early 20s. Perhaps some of them are our new ideas and some of them we learnt from the way we're being raised. It's fine that we might not be able to do everything we've said in the future, as it's just some thoughts that we have now.
Communication within the family is important. In the older generation, there was often gender bias within the family. For instance, girls should always learn to be a good cook while guys should always carry the heavy stuffs. Andrew and Verene thought that no matter what, it's better to treat both party fairly and treat them as an individual regardless of their gender where anyone could do anything.
In the past, or maybe even until today, people let their children inherit whatever they have when they are old. However, children might not always be interested in whatever you have. They should have things that they want to do themselves, life goals they want to achieve and live a life which they prefer. If they just blindly follow parent's decision for them, perhaps they lose their meaning of life too.
Apart from that, both Andrew and Verene agreed that spending time and effort with children are important. Specifically, to support them in doing things they like. It is unavoidable that sometimes the children might give up on something at one point as they realised that that is not something they like and want to do. That is fine. Without exploring things out there, no one will understand what they like themselves. In addition, sometime when we were young, we feel that we're not being supported enough by our parents. By taking the extra effort in doing things together with the children and fulfill their creative ideas, we're showing them that what they are doing are something amazing and that could encourage them to go further and explore more of their own potential.
These are just some of the thoughts that we have now in our early 20s. People changed, so do our thoughts. Hopefully by that time when we have children, these are still something we want to provide to the children. Let's see.
